Introduction
The Gateway Community College Consortium (GCCC) is a cooperative initiative between East Central College, Jefferson College, Mineral Area College and St. Charles Community College.
The Consortium provides a broad selection of distance learning courses that can be taken toward the completion of an Associate of Arts degree. Distance learning courses provide flexibility and convenience to those pursuing educational objectives.
Between the Consortium institutions more than, 120 courses are now available. These courses require little or no time on a college campus. This allows students to pursue an education while maintaining a busy, changing schedule.

The Gateway Consortium Does NOT:

Grant degrees or certificates (Those seeking degrees must select a home institution within the Consortium)
Expanded Choices
Distance learning courses have been available for a number of years beginning with correspondence courses, but because of changes in instructional technologies like VCR, DVD, CD-ROM and the Internet, class communications and delivery methods have greatly improved. Today, students taking courses at a distance are able to have demanding, changing schedules and pursue a quality education at time and location different than the instructor and other classmates.
Distance learning courses are not easier than on-campus courses. The courses offered are equivalent to on-campus courses in terms of content, degree of difficulty and transferability.
